Baba Kalyani has played fraud on court: Sister

Padma Bhushan awardee Baba Kalyani’s sister has accused him of playing fraud on court. The siblings are fighting a bitter legal battle over their mother Sulochana Kalyani’s samadhi in Court.
In February this year, Sugandha filed a suit against industrialist and chairman of Bharat Forge Baba Kalyani, seeking that he allow construction of their mother’s samadhi next to their father’s samadhi at a plot in Keshav Nagar, Pune. Sulochana Kalyani’s sister passed away in February 2023.  Sugandha’s claim is that immediately after their mother’s demise, she requested Baba that a samadhi should be built in her memory, right next to their father’s samadhi on a plot in Keshav Nagar, Pune. Baba chose to immerse the ashes in a river instead. Closer to mother’s second death anniversary, when Sugandha wrote to Baba to build the samadhi, he asked her to do so on the plot where Sulochana used to stay with her younger son Gaurishankar.

Sugandha insisted that it was her mother’s wish to be be buried next to her husband at Keshav Nagar plot.
With the Padma Bhushan awardee Baba Kalyani refusing to relent, Sugandha approached Pune court and filed a suit in February this year.
The case has seen several twists. First Baba told the court that he was ready to meet his siblings and build the samadhi. During the meeting, he told Sugandha that he had already installed a Shivlinga in their mother’s memory in a Math in Kashi. Sugandha went to Math and was upset to see that it was a small Shivlinga and nothing like a samadhi. In the next court hearing Baba stated that the plot where Sugandha wanted to build the samadhi was not his, to give. Taking offence to Baba’s stance, Sugandha filed an affidavit alleging, “It is clear that he has no compunction in blatantly misleading this Hon’ble Court and deceiving it by such misstatements.”
She has requested the court to take “severe penal action” against Baba “for attempting to deceive and defraud this Hon’ble Court”.
Baba’s side has taken a tough stand on the allegations made by Sugandha. “Ms. Sugandha Hiremath’s latest outburst is nothing short of a calculated attempt to defame Mr. Baba Kalyani. After repeatedly failing to secure a single order in her favor from the courts—despite filing a barrage of cases—she has now resorted to trial by media. These baseless and malicious allegations are a textbook example of character assassination,” his spokes person told the media.  The case has been kept for hearing next on June 27.
