Understanding diabetes and Its effects: Diabetes is a very common disease, in which the blood sugar levels rise due to inadequate insulin production or improper insulin function. While diabetes affects both genders, men face specific health problems and risks associated with it. Studies indicate that men with diabetes are more likely to develop certain complications, such as heart disease, impotency, and depression. Recognising these risks is important for early treatment.

Prevention through lifestyle modifications:

3) Maintaining a healthy weight: Maintaining your weight within the healthy range can help to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. By adopting healthy eating habits and integrating regular exercise into your daily routine, you can achieve and maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI).

  1. Regular check-ups: Men should visit their doctor regularly for diabetes screening and routine check-ups. Monitoring blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and kidney function is vital for the early detection of any complication.
  2. Medication adherence: If you have been prescribed medications to manage your diabetes, it is extremely important to follow the treatment plan diligently. Taking medications as advised and attending scheduled medical appointments can help to control blood sugar levels and prevent long-term complications.
  3. Mental health support: Diabetes can have a significant impact on mental well-being, leading to increased stress, anxiety and depression. Seeking support from healthcare providers, counsellors, or support groups can be beneficial in managing both physical and emotional aspects of diabetes.

Fostering overall wellness:

  1. Stress management: Long-standing stress can affect blood sugar control. Engage in stress-reducing activities like mindfulness meditation, deep-breathing exercises, hobbies, or spending time with loved ones to promote overall well-being.
  2. Quitting smoking: Smoking worsens the complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease and nerve damage. Quitting smoking can improve your overall health and help to manage diabetes more effectively.
  3. Support networks: Building a support network, whether through family, friends or diabetes support groups, can provide encouragement and motivation on the journey to managing diabetes and maintaining health.

 By raising awareness about the relationship between this disease and men’s health, individuals can take proactive steps towards prevention, early detection and effective management.
